countries are experiencing greater impacts and have less capacity to adapt in the future.
According to the WHO children living in developing countries suffer a double or even triple burden of disease. This refers to exposures, morbidity and mortality from diseases associated with low levels of development such as acute respiratory infections and diarrhea, as well as newer threats associated with industrialization such as asthma and allergies. When children have both kinds of exposures and are poor and malnourished it represents a triple burden. The WHO is stressing that respiratory diseases lead the list in both emerging and persistent health problems. We know that the origins of many adult chest conditions including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , are determined in early life.
In view of the
above mentioned drivers the subspecialty of pediatric respiratory medicine is in a state of constant evolution with the aim of improving the quality of air entering children’s lungs every time they breath .We hope that through our society , in the future, children with and without respiratory problems will be able to breathe better quality air and live a good quality life far apart from environmental and lifestyle hazards.
All individuals interested in improving the respiratory health of children are welcomed to join our society including but not exclusive to: respiratory medicine pediatricians, general pediatricians, pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties, researchers, nurses, respiratory physiologists, physiotherapists, the child and the parent/caregiver and other health-care professionals who are interested in the field of pediatric lung diseases.
